Company History
Background
MS Testing was formed in 2001 under the banner of Mariner Systems, a world leader in the design, manufacture and
supply of Marine Type Approved computer systems to the commercial maritime market.
The original function of the laboratory was to perform the EMC, Vibration and Climatic testing which was required to
achieve Marine Type Approval for the Mariner Systems Marine IT Products. In 2001 Stephen Lee was appointed as
Laboratory Manager and he still lends his considerable expertise
and experience to the operation today, more than 10 years later.
After a period of significant investment, the EMC and Environmental test capabilities were redeveloped and expanded. This
culminated in the installation of a state-of-the-art 3m automated anechoic chamber which
provides our clients with incredible levels of efficiency and repeatability, further reducing lead times in the process.
The new test laboratory subsequently continued to go from strength to strength and the appointment of
EMC Manager, Stephen
Thompson saw its schedule, capacity and capability increase further still.
Other significant developments included the implementation of purpose built bespoke test systems for Radiated Emissions,
Radiated Immunity, Conducted Susceptibility, Harmonics, Flicker, Conducted Emissions and Disturbance Power. It was a natural
progression to become UKAS accredited later in 2010.
Rebranding
With demand ever growing and an increasing UKAS schedule, it was necessary to rebrand the laboratory
in 2012 as the Mariner Systems branding no longer reflected the diverse range of testing on offer at the laboratory. After
all, the laboratory had gone a long way since solely testing marine equipment in its early days.
The MS Testing brand officially launched in January 2012. This more accurately reflected the laboratory's service proposition
whilst remaining true to its roots by maintaining the symbolism of 'MS' for Mariner Systems which continues to be a world leader
in its field.
The revised logo highlights the three distinct areas of specialist testing undertaken today - Marine Type Approval testing,
EMC testing and Environmental testing.
